“Start with Why” by Simon Sinek is one of several books that I often recommend to business owners who need to re-center the core of their business and focus, or to determine their business’s ultimate goals. I also recommend it to business owners who are team leaders.

When consulting with clients about marketing, I always explain that customers buy into the goal and purpose of businesses. They don’t necessarily buy what you do; they buy why you are doing what you do.

As consumers, there are tons of options available to us when we need a product or some service. However, there often are some driving factors which motivate each consumer in choosing one option over the others. These factors connect every consumer with a particular business and prompt them to take the corresponding action when it comes to making a choice.

It is this purpose; this goal that needs to be found to allow you to connect with your business. Finding this connection also leads to repeat customers and loyalty. By understanding the purpose of your business, you’ll find customers that buy into more than just the service or products you offer.
